Easily setup PuTTY SSH keys for passwordless logins

Log in to your VPS with PuTTY and SSH keys

We only support login using SSH keys (not passwords). Follow this step-by-step guide.

Step 1: Download and install PuTTY + PuTTYgen

Get the official installation package (includes PuTTYgen) from: Download PuTTY

PuTTYgen – click Generate and move the mouse
PuTTYgen: Click Generate and move the mouse over the blank area.

Step 2: Create SSH key in PuTTYgen

  1. Open PuTTYgen.
  2. Click "Generate" and move the mouse.
  3. Optional but highly recommended: Set a Key passphrase. This acts as an extra password protecting your private key. If someone gains access to your .ppk file, they cannot use it without the passphrase. It provides much stronger security for your VPS.
  4. Click Save private key and save the .ppk file.
  5. Copy the Public key from the field "Public key for pasting..."
PuTTYgen – Save private key and Copy public key
PuTTYgen: Save the .ppk and copy the public key.

Step 3: Add your public key in the customer portal

  1. Log in to client area.
  2. Select your VPS and paste your public key.
  3. Save.
Client area – paste SSH public key and save
Client area: Paste your public key and click Save.

Step 4: Connect with PuTTY

  1. Open PuTTY and enter your VPS IP under Host Name.
  2. Go to Connection → SSH → Auth and select your .ppk key.
  3. Go back to Session, click Save, then Open.
  4. Log in with your username (usually root).
PuTTY – select .ppk under SSH → Auth and connect
PuTTY: Select your private key file (.ppk) and connect.

Tip: Use Pageant for easier logins

If you protect your key with a Key passphrase, it can be annoying to type it every time. This is where Pageant (included with PuTTY) comes in handy. It runs in the background and remembers your key, so you only enter the passphrase once when you start your computer.

  1. Open Pageant (installed together with PuTTY).
  2. Click the tray icon → Add Key, and select your .ppk file.
  3. Enter your passphrase once.
  4. From now on, Pageant automatically supplies the key, and PuTTY won’t prompt you for the passphrase each time.

Tip: You can configure Pageant to start automatically with Windows, so your key is always ready when you log in to your PC.
